The SC-ST Rights Forum, a non-profit legal activism organization working for Dalit rights, has complained to the National Commission for Scheduled Castes about the massive conversions happening in the state.
The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), based on a complaint filed by an NGO, has issued a notice to the Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh, seeking an ‘Action Taken’ report in the matter of large scale Christian conversions targeting the Scheduled Caste (SC) in the state.
The NGO, the SC-ST Rights Forum, a non-profit legal activism organization working for Dalit rights, has filed a complaint to the NCSC detailing how Christian Missionaries target gullible Scheduled Castes in Andhra Pradesh.
The NCSC has asked for the report within 15 days of receipt of the notice, issued on Tuesday (July 20).
The SC-ST Rights Forum has complained to the NCSC that large scale religious conversions are taking place in Andhra Pradesh, and these conversions lead to social strife and law and order issues. It also said that the situation is such that the term ‘SC’ and ‘Christians’ have become synonymous in the state.
“It is nothing but an attack on the culture of Scheduled Caste communities. Though it is the duty of Governments to protect the culture of Schedule Caste communities from the invasion of the Church, unfortunately these governments are turning blind eye,” The Commune quoted the SC-ST Rights Forum National President K Nagaraja.
