PETA Tries to Teach Dairy to Amul, Amul Head RS Sodhi Says Indian Farmers Know It Better

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India Friday tried to teach dairy to Amul, one of India’s largest dairy companies. It suggested Amul should shift to producing vegan milk. RS Sodhi, MD, Amul, said Amul had been in the dairy business for years and had been providing livelihood to over 100 million poor farmers. He tweeted, “Peta wants Amul to snatch livelihood of 100 mill poor farmers and handover it's all resources built-in 75 years with farmers money to market genetically modified Soya of rich MNC at exorbitant prices , which average lower middle class can't afford.” Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd, which runs the brand Amul, has been a huge success story in the country. It has an annual turnover of US $5.5 billion. It is credited with improving the income of millions of farmers across the country and providing quality dairy products to consumers at very affordable prices. Ashwani Mahajan, Co-convener, Swadeshi Jagran Manch, said to PETA India, “But you lobby only selectively & want dairy farmers, most of whom are landless to stop their bread earning. Have you written to mechanised slaughter houses to stop killing of animals or have agitated against killing of animals in the name of faith. Stop coming in the way of ppl living.”
