The Supreme Court Friday ordered the transfer of dreaded gangster Mukhtar Ansari from Punjab jail to jail in Uttar Pradesh in two weeks.
Mukhtar Ansari is an MLA in Uttar Pradesh and wanted by the Uttar Pradesh police in many criminal cases.
Ansari is a close relative of former Vice-President Hamid Ansari.
The Punjab government led by Congress leader Captain Amarinder Singh has deployed a battery of lawyers to stop the gangster’s transfer to Uttar Pradesh.
When the repeated request of the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh failed, it moved the Supreme Court.
The court ordered the gangster be moved to the Banda jail in Uttar Pradesh. It also ordered the Superintendent of Banda jail to extend the needed medical facilities to the gangster.
