Prime Minister Narendra Modi has repeatedly been promoting Khadi & Village Industries (KVIC) products in his radio programme ‘Mann ki Baat’.
Khadi & Village Industries Commission registered an annual turnover of Rs 95,741.74 crore for 2020-21. “Despite the severe impact of Covid-19 pandemic, KVIC, in 2020-21, registered its highest ever annual turnover of Rs 95,741.74 crore, as compared to Rs 88,887 crore turnover in 2019-20, and thus registering a growth of 7.71%”, said KVIC in a statement.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been promoting the sales of Khadi & Village Industries products on his radio programme ‘Maan ki Baat’ since 2014.
The KVIC said that the production of khadi products has more than doubled in the last five years (since 2015-16), and the sales have gone up by nearly three times during the same period.
The Khadi production since 2015-16 has grown at an average of 19.45 per cent per annum, which was merely 6.25 percent during the previous government from 2004 to 2014.
The sale of khadi products has grown exponentially at the annual rate of 27.6 per cent, which remained as low as 6.65 per cent from 2004 to 2014, while Khadi sales has grown exponentially at the annual rate of 27.6 per cent.
“As a result of government’s sustained efforts to revive the Khadi industry and the Prime Minister’s repeated appeals from various platforms including his radio address ‘Mann ki Baat’, to adopt Khadi as a necessity of daily life, the KVIC has been continuously going up the growth trajectory”, the Financial Express quoted the KVIC chairperson Vinai Kumar Saxena.
The single-day sale at Khadi India’s Flagship Outlet in Connaught Place, New Delhi, has crossed Rs 1 crore mark on 11 different occasions, four times in October – November 2020.
