India Today TV anchor Rajdeep Sardesai was caught again spreading fake news.
On May 21, he claimed that since crematoriums were refusing to cremate the dead who died because of Covid-19, the relatives were forced to cremate their loved ones in the open forests in Almora in Uttarakhand.
The Health Ministry of Uttarakhand put out a letter showing Bhainswara Farm is a dedicated crematorium for Covid-19 deaths since December last year.
Sardesai had used the crematoriums in the same farm to say the Uttarakhand government was not doing anything for the last rites of the dead people.
In a series of tweets, the ministry refuted the claims of Sardesai.
It tweeted, “Bhainswara Farm is the site designated by the administration for cremation where the dead bodies are being cremated as per COVID-19 protocols. This story has not been verified & is sensational in nature, which is unbecoming of a senior journalist like Mr @sardesairajdeep.”
In another tweet, it said, “SDM Almora, AMA-ZP & EO-NP Almora are in-charge of the site. They have been putting in their best efforts. There are no designated cremotria in the hills but ghats have been designated for cremation. The man in PPE kit is a Govt employee carrying out his designated duties.”
