It has been an honour to have served the state, Says Outgoing Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediurappa

The four-time chief minister of Karnataka, BJP leader B S Yediurappa resigned as Karnataka chief minister on Monday (July 26).

Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediurappa resigned as the chief minister on Monday (January 26). It was also the second anniversary of the current BJP government in the state.

“It has been an honour to have served the state for the past two years. I have decided to resign as the Chief Minister of Karnataka. I am humbled and sincerely thank the people of the state for giving me the opportunity to serve them,” said Yediurappa.

He added, “I am grateful to PM @narendramodi Ji, @JPNadda Ji & @AmitShah Ji for their support.”

He is the only Karnataka leader who has been chief minister four times and the leader of opposition in the state assembly three times.

In a speech before tendering his resignation to the governor, Yediurappa said, “At a time when there were no cars, I remember cycling to work for the BJP party in Shikaripura, Shimoga. We, along with a few BJP workers, built the party and took it to where it is today.”

He added, “When Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister, he had asked me to be a minister at the Centre. However, I said I will be in Karnataka and serve the people of the state.”

Few months after he took office in July 2019, the Covid-19 pandemic struck. Remembering his two years in office, he said, “It has always been an ‘agnipariksha’ for me in these last two years since there was a pandemic.”

The BJP National President JP Nadda praised BS Yediurappa for the good work he had done in his terms as the state's chief minister.

Other senior party leaders also joined the BJP national president in praising the works of the outgoing chief minister.
