Under PM Awas Yojana, nearly Rs 1 lakh crore transferred to the accounts of the poor: PM Modi

PM Modi said the government approved the construction of over 1.13 crore houses in cities under PM Awas Yojana, and over 50 lakh houses have been built and handed over to the poor

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday (October 5), digitally handed over keys of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Urban (PMAY-U) houses to 75,000 beneficiaries in 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh. He was inaugurating 'Azadi@75–New Urban India: Transforming Urban Landscape' Conference-cum-Expo at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow. He also interacted with beneficiaries of the scheme in Uttar Pradesh virtually.

"Since 2014, our government has approved the construction of more than 1.13 crore houses in cities under PM Awas Yojana. Out of this, more than 50 lakh houses have been built and handed over to the poor," PM Modi said at the event.

"Some dignitaries ask us, what did Modi do? Today, for the first time, I want to tell such a thing, after which the opponents, who spend all their energy opposing us day and night, will attack me after hearing this speech of mine," he said.

"My friends, who used to live in slum area and did not have a pucca houses, such three crore families have got the opportunity to become 'lakhpati' (millionaire) with a single scheme. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, about 3 crore houses have been built in the country…These people have become lakhpati now (millionaire)," he added.

The Prime Minister further said that under PM Awas Yojana, over 80 per cent of the houses are either owned by women or are the joint owner of these houses.

He also said that under PM Awas Yojana, the Central government has transferred nearly Rs 1 lakh crore in the accounts of the poor.
