One Congress leader and one AIUDF leader were arrested by Assam police on Sunday night for inciting and mobilising locals to attack police during an eviction drive in Dhalpur in Darrang district on 23rd September.

Top Assam police officials told 'Organiser' that the two arrested individuals have been accused of criminal conspiracy, instigating violence and mobilising crowds at the behest of extremist Islamic organisations such as the PFI as well as its college-level wing Campus Front of India (CFI).

The arrested persons have been identified as  Md Asmat Ali Ahmed and Md Chand Mamud. According to the police, Chand Mamud is the President of Sonowa Village Panchayat elected as a Congress candidate.
