On January 4, the Naveen Patnaik government of Odisha provided a grant of 79 lakh rupees to Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity.
Condemning Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's move to grant 78 lakh 76 thousand rupees to the Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity, Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) said on Sunday (January 9) that its appeasement of 3% Christian population of the state.
On January 4, after the Missionaries of Charity's FCRA registration was invalidated, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik granted money to the Charity from the chief minister's relief fund.
"Swami Laxmananand Saraswati ji was murdered over a decade ago but this government has not been able to find the perpetrators. Multiple sources have revealed that Christian missionaries were involved in his murder. But, this government indulges in appeasement of 3% Christian population," said VHP Central Secretary General Milind Parande.
He also said CM Patnaik overlooked the interests of 97% of Hindus in the state. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, thousands of priests have been forced to live in poverty, and multiple mutts are facing a severe financial crisis, but the Naveen Patnaik government has never provided any relief to these sufferers. There are multiple orphanages, widow ashrams, old age homes, etc., running in the state and are facing a severe financial crisis, but Chief Minister Patnaik has never taken any steps to mitigate their crises.
Parande said that all these only show the anti-Hindu mentality of CM Patnaik. He also said even Mahatma Gandhi had expressed his concern over the conversions going on worldwide. In an article in Harijan magazine in 1937 (January 30 edition), Mahatma Gandhi had written why a Christian should try to convert a Hindu to Christianity. He even called Christian missionaries' conversion a big threat to the world's peace and progress.
On many occasions, the Missionaries of Charity have been accused of converting by stealth. As reported by the Organiser on December 15, the Vadodara District Social Defence Officer Mayank Trivedi had visited the Missionaries of Charity in the Makarpura area on December 9 and found that Hindu girls were 'forced' to read Christian religious text and participate in prayers. It was booked for unlawful religious conversion.
