NCB and Guwahati police nabbed Ataur Rahman, son of notorious criminal Pakhi Miya and two other gang members, along with the contraband worth 14 crores.
Guwahati: In a massive seizure of drugs in Guwahati, NCB sleuths seized huge contraband of morphine in the Sonapur area from the custody of Ataur Rahman, son of notorious drug mafia and murderer Samsul Haque Talukdar alias Pakhi Miya.
The seized morphine worth Rs 14 crore was recovered from 2 vehicles in the Sonapur area on Friday night by a joint team of NCB and Guwahati city police. The drug consignment was concealed in secret chambers of the vehicles at Sonapur.
Ataur Rahman's father, Pakhi Miya, ran the biggest drug mafia in Assam and North East. He was involved in Revenue Intelligence officer Tapan Kumar Dutta's murder in Guwahati on September 12, 2006. Dutta seized several huge drugs consignments of Pakhi Miya during 2004-06 across Assam, including the seizure of 80 tonnes of Ganja worth 40 crores. Unknown gunmen assassinated DRI officer Dutta in Guwahati city in 2006. Later, it came out in an investigation that Pakhi Miya killed the officer through contract killers. Pakhi Miya was arrested in Burdwan in West Bengal in April 2008. He was brought to Guwahati and lodged in jail. He was later admitted to Guwahati medical college hospital. Pakhi Miya escaped from police custody and was arrested in 2009. More than 20 cases of killing, kidnapping, extortion, drug peddling and women trafficking, besides jailbreak, were registered against Pakhi Miya. He was jailed for several years and is now out on Bail.
Samsul Haque alias Pakhi Miya, who was prime accused of the murders of AGP leader Habib Ali in 2006 and journalist Muslimuddin in 2008, was once the prime controller of drugs supply, distribution, peddling, etc. Later, his cousin brother Hyder Ali controlled the Ganja racket.
The arrest of Pakhi Miya's son Ataur Rahma and a huge consignment of drugs has brought a new angle for the security agencies. Whether Pakhi Miya is trying to reactivate his drugs empire in North East is a serious concern for police and NCB. The three nabbed persons, including Ataur, were brought to Guwahati. City Police are investigating the case further to find out the link of Pakhi Miya in the latest haul of drugs in Guwahati.
