Law minister Kiren Rijiju's 'viral dance video' gets PM's attention

PM Narendra Modi praised Union Minister Kiren Rijiju's dancing skills and praised the culture of Arunachal Pradesh as vibrant and glorious.

New Delhi: These were two rather unusual tweets amid the seriousness of governance and political battles.

Taking to the microblogging site, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju, also the MP from Arunachal Pradesh, talked about how folk songs and dances are the 'essence of every community' in northeast India.

"During my visit to the beautiful Kazalang village to monitor the Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Projects. This is the traditional merrymaking of Sajolang people whenever guests visit their village. The original folk songs and dances are the ESSENCE of every community in Arunachal Pradesh," he tweeted.

The Minister also shared the video.

The 1.15-minute clip has caught the attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who retweeted the clip while praising Rijiju's dancing skills.

"Our Law Minister Kiren Rijiju is also a decent dancer! Good to see the vibrant and glorious culture of Arunachal Pradesh," Mr Modi wrote.

Central leaders, including the Prime Minister, have been encouraging local enthusiasts in the northeast to pursue their traditions and cultural extravaganza.

In 2016, Prime Minister Modi had tried his hands at drumming during an event organised in his honour on his arrival at Mawphlang village in Meghalaya.

Mr Modi also took part actively in cultural dance and interacted with locals during his visit.

Of course, the Prime Minister had displayed his drumming skills in Japan in 2014 as well.
