After the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in August this year, the terror threat has increased manifold in India. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) investigation revealed that ISIS targets South India for recruiting cadre.
ISIS and its affiliate ISIS-K are also working on plans to establish training grounds in the south, especially Kerala.
Most of the ISIS recruits in India are from Kerala. It was recently revealed that the suicide bomber who targeted the Hamid Karzai International Airport was deported from Delhi in 2016.
The NIA has alerted the other security agencies about its investigation.
ISIS is also targeting the distribution of jihad literature in Kerala, West Bengal and Jammu & Kashmir. In a press release earlier, ISIS has expressed support for the terrorists in Kashmir.
The NIA has investigated more than 37 cases related to terror funding and the setting up a module.
The Taliban overthrew the Ashraf Ghani government in Kabul on August 15 this year, 15 days before the complete withdrawal of the US-led NATO forces.
It was widely expected that with the Taliban in power in Afghanistan, the country would become a safe haven for terrorists in the region.
The United States had raided Afghanistan in 2001 only after the Taliban declined to hand over Al-Qaeda head, Osama bin Laden.
Nearly all the top functionaries in the new Taliban government in Afghanistan are UN-designated terrorists. The Haqqani network terrorists are also occupying senior government positions, including the home ministry in the country.
Senior members of the Haqqani Network carry bounties on their heads.
