Speaking in a webinar organised by the Andhra Pradesh State Waqf Board, former DGP SA Huda said Dr Ariz Ahmed aims to increase the representation of Muslims in the civil services from the current 3% to 15% in the next 5-10 years.

In a webinar organised by the Andhra Pradesh State Waqf Board, former Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Syed Anwarul Huda said that efforts were needed to increase the representation of Muslims in the civil services, especially IAS and IPS, from the current 3% to 15%.

Former DGP Huda shared tips to prepare for the civil services examination and crack it with good marks in the webinar.

Huda lamented that of the nearly five lakh applicants in the UPSC Civil Service Examination, only about 5000 are Muslims, and only about 3% make it to the final list. He exhorted the students to increase this share to 15%.

Dr Ariz Ahmed, principal secretary in the Assam government, was one of the coordinators for the webinar. About 1100 students had registered for the webinar, and 408 attended it. The maximum registration, 408, had come from Kerala.

Huda said that effort needs to be made to ensure more and more Muslim children enrol for education and get proper guidance in formative years as only proper guidance can ensure a journey to civil services. He had earlier served as the officer on special duty in the Andhra Pradesh State Waqf Board.

In August last year, a controversy has erupted when Sudarshan News telecast a programme ‘Bindas Bol-UPSC Jihad’. Some petitioners had moved to Delhi High Court to stop the telecast of the programme.

The Court had asked the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting to take a call on the issue. The ministry had advised the channel to ensure its programmes do not violate the ministry guidelines.

In September last year, multiple videos of senior IAS officer Mohd Iftikharuddin had gone viral where he could be seen preaching virtues of Islam and deriding other religions. He was accused of promoting Islam and conversion. The videos were reportedly of 2014-16 when he was commissioner of the Kanpur division in Uttar Pradesh. The Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav was chief minister of Uttar Pradesh from 2012 to 17.
