In First Delhi Riots Judgement, Court Acquits Suresh, Dismisses Testimony of Complainant Asif

In February last year, the anti-CAA protestors had gone on a rampage for days killing innocent citizens and looting their properties.

In the first verdict in the Delhi riots case, a city court in Delhi acquitted Suresh alias Bhatura (27). The court observed that “prosecution has miserably failed to prove its case, forget about beyond reasonable doubts. All the major witnesses are at variance with each other on material terms, impacting the prosecution version.”

In February last year, anti-CAA protesters had gone on a rampage for days by killing innocent Hindus and destroying properties.

The FIR was filed on a complaint by one Asif. The complainant had stated that on the evening of February 25 last year, a huge mob carrying iron rods and lathis forcefully entered his shop at Main Babarpur road and looted it.

The court dismissed Asif’s testimony, citing glaring inconsistencies in his version. The court also noted that the testimonies of other witnesses were unreliable.

The mob brutally murdered Intelligence Bureau officer Ankit Sharma in the Chand Bagh area and killed another Delhi Police constable in the riots.

The mob burned and looted many shops and commercial establishments belonging to Hindus during the riots.
