BJP sweeps Goa local body elections; wins 5 out of 6 municipalities, secures a majority in Panaji Corporation

In a huge boost to the BJP ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, BJP outperformed Congress in the Goa local body elections. BJP-backed panels have won Canacona, Curchorem, Bicholim, Valpoi and Pernem municipal councils. The party also won a majority in the Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) where the election was held on the same day. While the elections were not fought on party lines, the BJP, as well as the Congress, had fielded panels led by their members. Panaji MLA and BJP leader Atanasio Monserratte''s panel won 25 out of 30 seats in the CCP. PM Modi thanked the voters of Ga for supporting BJP. PM Modi in a tweet said, "Thank you Goa for the continuous support to BJP. The results of the Municipal Elections 2021 show the people's appreciation towards our Party's development agenda." "I laud all hardworking BJP Karyakartas who went among people and worked hard during the campaign," he said.
