Guwahati: As the Bhartiya Janata Party-led Assam government in Dispur turns one month old on Thursday, State chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma promises a number of welfare schemes for the people. On the particular occasion, he inaugurated a 300 bedded corona care hospital at the Sarusajai complex in the city.
Built-in association with DRDO with a project cost of rupees 21.46 crore, the hospital is designed to act as an annexe to Guwahati medical college hospital (GMCH). Oil India Limited and ICICI bank extended financial supports to the tune of rupees 2 crore and 1.5 crore respectively for the project.
CM Sarma, in presence of State health minister Keshab Mahanta, also inaugurated a 20-bed ICU and 32 oxygen supported beds at Kalapahar corona care hospital, which will also be an annexe to GMCH. From now on treatment of corona patients will be gradually reduced at MMC & Singimari hospital and they will be shifted to GMC and Sarusajai corona care hospital.
Sarma also launched a special CM’s Shishu Sewa scheme for the benefit of those children who have lost both their parents due to Covid-19 complications since March 2020. Moreover, the widows because of the corona pandemic are sanctioned to receive the assistance of rupees 2.5 lakh along with the pension and supports from Orunodoi initiatives.
Speaking to media persons, over the ongoing crackdown against drug mafias in the State, Sarma revealed that the police had seized illegal drugs worth rupees nearly 24 crores in the last 30 days. Moreover, not less than 500 drug peddlers were arrested from different parts of the State. He assured that the operation will continue to safeguard the new generation from the menace.
