New Delhi: As getting food in lockdown became a daily struggle for the people of Chak Chila village, an island in the middle of Yamuna river in the national capital, the BJP on Monday arranged a dry ration for the villagers for a month. The saffron party provided the dry ration kit for a month to around 60 families living on the island under its ‘Sewa Hi Sangathan 2.0’ launched to mark the seventh anniversary of the Narendra Modi Government. Rajya Sabha member and senior BJP leader Dr Vinay Sahasrabuddhe and Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta took a boat ride to reach out to the residents of the island, which falls under the assembly constituency of Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, and distributed a dry ration kit for a month. The Chak Chila village is situated in the middle of the Yamuna river from where the DND flyway passes by and connects Mayur Vihar and Maharani Bagh. To reach the village, one first needs to reach the Yamuna Khadar and then take a boat ride from there. The area lacks road connectivity and can be reached only through boats. By boat, it takes around 10-15 minutes to reach the village depending on the wind speed and water current. After distributing the dry ration kits for a month to the residents of the island, Dr Sahasrabuddhe, also President of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), said, “True meaning of ‘antyodaya’ to reach out to the last man of the society to empower them and this is visible here.” Delhi BJP President Adesh Gupta appealed Deputy Chief Minister Sisodia to provide basic facilities to residents of Chak Chilla village in his assembly constituency before turning Delhi into London or Paris. "The village located in the middle of the river has remained cut off from the national capital and the government schemes for long. And we are arranging the dry ration kits to the residents of the Chak Chila village so that they don’t have to sleep with empty stomach,” Delhi BJP Vice President Virender Sachdeva said.
