Zero Tolerance Against Cow Smugglers: Assam CM

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister stressed focusing on cattle smugglers and show zero tolerance towards them.

Chief Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma asked the police department to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against cow smugglers. "No FIR, no charge sheet in cattle smuggling. There must be an end of cow smuggling from the state as soon as possible," The Chief Minister said. He was addressing the first-ever conclave of officers in charge of the police stations of Assam. Dr. Sharma further said. The cow is the holiest animal for us and, we should be able to protect it by any means. Cow smuggling is a 1000 crore rupee illegal trade running in Assam for several years. Many international rackets are involved in this illegal trade. Large numbers of cattle, mostly cows, are being illegally exported to Bangladesh via various routes from Assam. The new BJP government is taking a zero-tolerance approach towards illegal trade in the last two months. Assam police have busted several rackets of cow smugglers and arrested hundreds of smugglers, mostly migrant Muslims. One DSP ranked police officer was also arrested for involvement in cattle smuggling.

CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma orders the police officers to retaliate whenever it is required to control the crime and criminals. There should be no compromise with the criminals at any point. Criminals must shiver in the name of police, the CM further said. In the last month, Assam Police had 14 encounters with the most wanted criminals, where 3 criminals were killed and 11 sustained bullet injuries. In the one-day officer in charge conclave of Assam Police held in Guwahati, CM Dr. Sharma asked the police department to file a charge sheet of rape, drugs, arms cases within 7 days. He also stressed on disposal of pending cases within the next six months. The CM also said, "Substantial evidence-based charge sheet must produce in the court in rape, drugs, and arms-related cases so that the criminal is convicted and punished."
