Guwahati: After one week of the border standoff between Assam and Mizoram, both the states have decided to reach an amicable resolution through peaceful dialogues. On Monday evening, both Assam and Mizoram governments withdrew all the cases against each other's top officials.

The development started on Monday (July 2) morning when the Assam chief minister ordered the police to drop the case against Mizoram MP K Vanlalvena. Immediately Mizoram government also withdrew the case registered against Assam CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. Taking to Twitter Assam CM, Dr Sarma wrote, "I learn that Hon'ble CM @ZoramthangaCM has asked @mizorampolice to withdraw FIR dated 26.7.21 against our officers. I heartily reciprocate this positive gesture and ask @assampolice to withdraw cases against DC Kolasib and SDPO Virengte."

Earlier in the evening, the Mizoram chief minister said over Twitter, "In order to build a conducive atmosphere for amicable solution to the Mizoram Assam Border dispute and to reduce the plight of suffering citizens, I have directed @mizorampolice to withdraw FIR dated 26.07.2021 filed at Vairengte,Kolasib District,Mizoram against all the accused persons."

On the other hand, chief minister Dr Sarma decided to send two ministers to Mizoram to hold talks on the festering border dispute between the two states. Agriculture Minister Atul Bora and urban development minister Ashok Singhal will visit Aizawl on the 5th of this month and hold talks with the chief minister. The decision comes on a day when both the states made conciliatory moves to defuse tension and restore peace. Announcing the decision, the Assam chief minister said over Twitter, "Further, in aid of an early amicable resolution, I am sending my cabinet colleagues, @ATULBORA2 and @TheAshokSinghal to Aizawl on 5 Aug, for a meaningful dialogue. Assam stands committed to ensuring peace on its borders, paving the way for a peaceful & developed North-East."

It should be mentioned that union home minister Amit Shah spoke to both Assam and Mizoram chief ministers over the phone on Sunday night. The home minister asked Dr Sarma and Zoramthanga to find an amicable resolution through peaceful dialogues. The developments in the ongoing border standoff on Monday came after the intervention of the union home minister, sources said.
