Nagaon police busted a Muslim criminal racket who are involved in land grabbing using forgery documents.

Guwahati: With the increasing minority population in the middle Assam district of Nagaon, the place has become a crime centre for Muslim criminals. Drug rackets, frauds, robbery, smuggling, poaching of wild animals are few to name in their crime list. Thanks to Nagaon police, various Muslim criminal rackets are being busted in hundreds of operations in the last three months or so.

A few days back, the Organiser published a report on how Muslim drug peddlers were caught red-handed by Nagaon police while doing home delivery of contrabands. Nagaon police now busted a Muslim criminal racket who are involved in land grabbing using forgery documents. These land mafia goons are eying on government lands and were planning to grab those with forgery documents.

In the operation, two main kin pins of this land mafia racket, Liakat Ali and Jiyabur Rahman, are arrested by police. Nagaon police recovered thousands of land documents “Patts”, IDs, fake stamps of government officials and village headmen from the custody of the two arrested touts.

Nagaon SP Anand Mishra told “Organiser” that a big racket is involved in the land grabbing activities going on in the district. They are the reason for social tension in the rural areas of the district, leading to grave and heinous crimes due to land disputes. SP Mishra further stated that some government officials might also be involved in the racket, and police will investigate the whole matter. The two land mafia goons, Liakat Ali and Jiyabur Rahman were arrested from Juria, a minority-dominated area of Nagaon district.

Police sources said they are involved in grabbing government lands using fake documents while selling or changing ownership of hundreds of ‘bigha’s of land so far. It should be mentioned that many Muslim land mafia goons are involved in land grabbing activities in the districts using fraud documents. Within a night, these mafias change the land ownership and sell or buy it according to their wish. Some government officials are also involved in this crime and help these rackets for money.

The Nagaon police say, “These gangs could change your landholding to someone else’s name without your knowledge.” Police sources further say that many heinous crimes happened, including murder and rapes in the minority-dominated areas of the district due to land disputes.
