After meeting his leader Rahul Gandhi, Maharashtra Congress Chief Nana Patole has declared that the Congress party will contest the upcoming local body elections in Maharashtra alone. This assumes significance amid growing resentment in the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance. AICC state in-charge HK Patil and party general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal also participated in the meeting that took place in Delhi.
Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole said, "Looking at the condition of other parties in Maharashtra, there is a lot of space only for Congress. In the meeting, a detailed discussion was held regarding the plan to strengthen the party". He added, "The Assembly polls are three years away. Congress will fight the local body elections on its own".
Currently, the Sena-Congress-NCP combine is ruling Maharashtra. Being an alliance of convenience, the MVA administration has been criticised for its inefficiency, corruption and infighting.
