Some natives of Champat Rai's home district of Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, had posted a disparaging message accusing him of being involved in a bogus land grabbing case. Rai is also the General Secretary of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra.
The Uttar Pradesh Police lodged an FIR under various sections of the IPC against three people for putting up a derogatory post against VHP Vice-President Champat Rai, who is also the General Secretary of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra.
Vineet Narayan, Alka Lahoti and Rajneesh, all from Nagina in Bijnor district, are booked under IPC sections 153 A, 193, 295-A, 448, 419, 417, 465, 487, 409, 470, 471, 504, 505 (1) (c), 505 (2) & 507 and 66 (d), 71 & 74 of IT Act.
Opposition groups have recently targeted Rai, who has been affiliated with the RSS since his childhood.
Uttar Pradesh has assembly elections early next year.

Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra, a trust made up to look after construction and management of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir in Ayodhya.
The construction work of Shri Ram temple in Ayodhya is in full swing. It is expected to be completed by 2024.
