Debashish Acharya, who had slapped West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and TMC’s general secretary Abhishek Banerjee in a campaign rally in 2015, was murdered on June 17.

Acharya had campaigned for the BJP in the just-concluded assembly polls.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has demanded a CBI inquiry in his murder.

Some unidentified men attacked Acharya in the night. He sustained severe injuries in his head and later succumbed in the hospital.

In 2015, he had slapped Abhishek Banerjee in a public function. People present on the stage surrounded Acharya and thrashed him severely.

West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar is in Delhi on a three-day visit to Delhi to apprise the Union Home Minister about the post-poll violence in the state.

He is slated to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 18.

More than 30 BJP members and RSS volunteers have lost their lives in the post-poll violence unleashed in the state by the TMC cadre.
