Kerala: Hindu Aikyavedi President K.P Sasikala’s Facebook post regarding an alcohol product getting ‘halal’ certificate has gone viral on social networking platform. Her allegation has raised serious doubts on the process of giving religious sanctity to the halal system which is indeed an exclusionary system.
K.P Sasikala pointed out that a prominent company producing Ethyl Acetate got the halal certification. Interestingly, Ethyl Acetate is composed of 90% alcohol and 10% distilled water. India has been exporting this product to various nations, including the Middle East. Before five years, these products only needed Food and Drug certificate, but later Middle-East authorities became adamant regarding the halal certification.
A product with 90% alcohol presence getting halal certification has raised suspicion about the ‘religious-principles’ attached to it. Halal certificate issuing authority charges Rs 50,000 for this certification and surprisingly the amount has to be given in cash and not via cheque.
K.P Sasikala also said that with money anything haram can be converted to halal. In her Facebook post, she also warned that the halal system is not just connected to belief but it is nothing short of waging an economic jihad and monopolising of industries.
Earlier, the general secretary of Hindu Aikyavedi, R.V Babu was arrested in Kerala for making a public call to boycott halal products.
