The UP Police today registered an FIR against Congress leader Udit Raj for spreading fake news in the death of two Dalit girls in Unnao.
Two Dalit girls were found dead and one in a critical condition in a farm field in Unnao on February 17. Police, acting swiftly, arrested two accused within 48 hours. It turned out to be a case of a one-sided love affair.
The former Member of Parliament Udit Raj alleged in a tweet that the two dead girls were raped before being murdered. He also alleged the dead bodies were burnt by the administration without the victim’s families consent.
It was all fake news. The post-mortem report has ruled out any sexual assault and the bodies were buried by the family. All this information was in the public domain well before Udit Raj’s tweet.
The police booked Raj under IPC 153 (for provocating with intent to cause riot) and 66 IT Act.
The police believe Raj did this with the intention to disturb the public order.
Udit Raj joined Congress in 2019 after he was denied a ticket by BJP to contest the Lok Sabha election.
Raj has indulged in spreading fake news many times in the past too.
