Assam government launches free, dedicated bus service for women and senior citizens

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday had flagged off 25 pink buses to provide free service to women and senior citizens in selected routes. This scheme was launched under the ‘Bhraman Sarathi’ scheme . “This free transport service introduced for the first time in Guwahati would immensely help the women and senior citizens. I urged all commuters to take adequate care of these buses," Sonowal said at the ceremony held at Asam Administrative Staff College at Khanapara.
As per the statement, the buses will ply on five routes- Khanapara to Jalukbari via Paltan Bazar, Forest Gate to Jalukbari via Chandmari, Basistha Mandir to Jalukbari via Paltan Bazar, Khanapara to Jalukbari via NH/ISBT and Games Village/ Bhetapara to Jalukbari via Paltan Bazar. The CM also appreciated the role played by the Assam State Transport Corporation during the initial days of COVID-19 pandemic as the ASTC buses transported essential items and aided people stranded across the region.
Speaking on the occasion, Assam state transport minister Patowary said that his department introduced this bus service for women and senior citizens as per the direction of the chief minister to make their travel safe and comfortable. (With inputs from ANI)
