The Indian Intelligence Agencies have warned of a plot by Pakistan to target leaders of BJP, RSS, VHP and ABVP in various parts of the country. The terror groups were under pressure to carry out the attack at the earliest, sources in the Tamil Nadu police told The Hindu on Monday.
In an alert sent to all States, central intelligence agencies warned that criminal and underworld networks were tasked by Pakistan establishments (ISI) to gather details of the target persons including their place of stay, routine activities and day-to-day movement. The inputs were received by the intelligence agencies through reliable inputs. Consequently, State intelligence units were told to sensitise prominent leaders of these organisations and take appropriate security measures.
The Hindu quoted a senior police officer in Tamil Nadu who said that police officers have been asked to scale up the security cover of such leaders depending upon the existing threat perceptions. The intelligence machinery has been geared to mount vigil on activists/sympathisers of religious fundamentalist outfits, he was quoted as saying.
The article in the Hindu also reported that instructions were issued to intensify security at airports, air strips, seaports, atomic/nuclear power installations and major water resources. In another note, the centre warned that some banned extremist outfits that had the backing of Pakistani intelligence agencies, had planned a major attack in the country and had specific plans of infiltration along the country’s border with Bangladesh or Myanmar.
Similar threats were received last year and in 2018 too. Specifically, Hindu leaders in Tamil Nadu and other parts of Southern India were on the target of Jihadi organisations. Many Hindu leaders and activists belonging to various organisations have been killed by Islamic organisations during the last few years.
