The Maoists who surrendered have said that they were disillusion with the ideology and the path taken. Among those who surrendered were three such Maoists who had a bounty of Rupees One Lakh on their heads by the state government. Few supporters of the Maoists also surrendered in the ceremony.
A Maoist couple who surrendered at the ceremony were involved in several attacks on the CRPF and Police convoys including the attack near NMDC.
According to the information provided to the media by the police, many more Maoists in Dantewada have already surrendered recently before the District Superintendent of Police, District Collector and CRPF DIG. The CRPF DIG said that he would help those Maoists who have surrendered to get jobs as per their skills.
