Effect of abrogation of Article 370 - 37 Central Acts will now be applicable in UT of Jammu & Kashmir

Union Cabinet chaired by PM Narendra Modi issues the order to ensure administrative effectiveness and smooth transition in the new Union Territory.

The Central Government on Friday, 28th February, approved an order to adopt 37 central laws in the concurrent list which were for all these decades not applicable in Jammu and Kashmir due to Article 370. The move comes 6 months after abrogation of Article 370 and re-organisation of Jammu & Kashmir as a Union Territory. These laws will now be as applicable in the new UT of Jammu & Kashmir as they are to whole country.
 
Union Minister Prakash Javadekar informed the media after the order was passed by the cabinet headed by PM Modi. Interacting with the media, he said that the decision was taken with an aim to ensure administrative effectiveness and smooth transition in the Union Territory.
 
The adaptation of these central laws will be under Section 96 of the J&K Re-organisation Act, 2019, which reorganized the erstwhile state into two UTs, Jammu and Kashmir with an Assembly and Ladakh without one. President Ram Nath Kovind's gave his assent to the Act on August 9, 2019, four days after Parliament passed it.
