Andhra Pradesh government, notoriously known for its evangelical enterprising has initiated a new trick to uproot tribal population of its Hindu roots.
In the household survey conducted by the ward volunteers appointed by the government, a new option of ‘tribal religion’ is added in the religion column. BJP MLC PVN Madhav, who brought out this issue has questioned the logic of including religion column to this survey. He also said, “It is against the Constitution to include religion. Tribals belong to Hindu religion and there is no religion called tribal religion. It is an attempt to divide Hindus by showing SCs and STs as people of separate religions.”
He pointed out that there hasn’t been a survey of this kind in any other states and demanded immediate suspension of this survey.
Christian missionaries have made Tribals a soft target for their conversion activities. Many of the tribals have converted to Christianity in Andhra Pradesh. But, on government records, these ‘crypto-Christians’ remain as Hindus to avail reservation.
Andhra Pradesh government under YS Jaganmohan Reddy is widely criticised for assisting the evangelical mafia operating inside the state.
