Dalit community members have alleged that the Muslim mob also thrashed them even inside the police station. Police had to use force to disperse the mob.

A wedding procession of a Dalit that was passing through a Muslim locality has been attacked and one person has died. A Muslim mob pelted stones on a marriage party of a Dalit which was passing in front of a mosque. The incident took place in Pipalarwa village in Dewas district of Congress ruled Madhya Pradesh.

As per Jansatta report on 31st May, a marriage procession of a Dalit groom was passing through the Sonkach Tehsil in Pipalarwa village which is dominated by Muslims. As the procession reached a mosque, Muslims demanded that the volume of the music being played as part of the procession be reduced. This led to an altercation between the members of the marriage party and the local Muslims.

As the verbal duel raged, a mob of Muslims congregated near the mosque and suddenly started to pelt stones on the marriage party injuring many. The small marriage party was no match for the large Muslim mob and everyone including the groom were injured in the stone pelting. One person Dharmendra Shinde, who was also part of the marriage procession, was hit by a boulder in the head and died on the spot after bleeding profusely. It is said that Dharmendra was only trying to calm the situation by talking to both the sides but the Muslims were unrelenting in their demand and continued to pelt stones. While Dharmendra died on the spot, 2 others are said to be in a critical condition. Many of those in the procession who were injured have been admitted to a local hospital.

The travails of the Dalit marriage party did not end there. They approached the local police station to register a complaint. The Dalits allege that the Muslim mob followed them here too and thrashed them inside the station premises. Local reports from Dewas suggest that the police intervened when the Muslim mob attacked the Dalits inside the police station and the mob was lathicarged after which they dispersed.

The Dalit groom belonged to the Ravidas community and the incident and the lack of security has angered the entire community. The community has approached the village administration to provide them the necessary security in the aftermath of the incident. An FIR has been registered against more than 10 people based on the complaints lodged by the members of the Dalit community. Section 144 has been imposed in the area and a platoon of the state police has been stationed until the situation eases.
