All are equal, some are more equal than others in Kerala - Dr. KS Radhakrishnan
"It is unfortunate, there were areas where I did not get any space to paste my posters or write my name and symbol on the walls. They were the Muslim-dominated areas. I was denied that right to propagate my views, wherever Muslims live in clusters. This attitude is very much against the sprit of democracy" - Dr KS Radhakrishnan, former VC of Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit and former Kerala PSC
Dr. K.S. Radhakrishnan, BJP candidate from Alappuzha
This is not a mere quotation from George Orwell's "Animal Farm". But, it speaks out the blatant situation in Alappuzha district, Keralam. And, the situation is narrated by Dr. K.S. Radhakrishnan, former VC of Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit and former Kerala PSC. Dr. KS told this correspondent what he underwent in Alappuzha during his election campaign until April 22 as the BJP candidate from Alappuzha LS constituencey. He spoke to this correspondent on his experiences. Here is the summary of his statement:
"It is unfortunate, there were areas where I did not get any space to paste my posters or write my name and symbol on the walls. They were the Muslim-dominated areas. Muslim-Hindu-Christian fishermen live in clusters on coastal area. In such areas I got one third of the space. Two third went to my rival candidates, obviously belonging to the LDF and UDF. It was the same scenario in Christian areas. But, in Muslim dominated areas only two candidates belonging to both Congress-led UDF and CPM-led LDF got space on walls during hustings. Why did this happen? As a candidate I am entitled to have the right to propagate my views, whether one votes for me or not is someting else. I was denied that right wherever Muslims live clusters. This attitude is very much against the sprit of democracy".
Dr. Radhakrishnan's revelation should be viewed against the backdrop of series of incidents of attacks against and blockade of the BJP candidates' roadshows in Pathanamthitta and Attingal where K. Surendran and Shobha Surendran contested, hurling chappal on Kummanm Rajasekharan, former Missoram governor and currently the BJP candidate in Tiruvananthapuram LS constituency, showering abuses on Defence Minister Nirmala Sitaraman and Kummanm while returning from thhe road show, attacks on BP workers in all constituencies, etc. All incidents showed the unholy nexus between the Marxists and Islamic extremist groups.
