Will Regret and Apology suffice for contempt of SC?
   22-Apr-2019
How can Rahul Gandhi get away by just offering ‘regret’ and apology and saying that he will not do it again? He has already damaged the fabric of democracy because he uttered the falsehood to thousands of citizens and justified it by dragging in the Supreme Court.

BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi had filed a contempt petition against Rahul Gandhi over his statement attributing 'chowkidar chor hai' remarks to Supreme Court

It reveals a sad state of affair how Rahul Gandhi was let off the hook without any punishment for contempt of SC. Look at the enormity of the demeaning and abusive word Raul Gandhi used against the PM in rallies and roadside shows that 'Chowkidar Chor hai’ was as it stands disgusting and unacceptable. But when he went further to give it a sheen of truth of what he is uttering by putting these words into the mouth of the SC he had crossed the lakshman rekha.

The SC cannot let him off so easily because he is not a primary class child who when caught in uttering a lie or falsehood says ‘I am sorry I will not repeat it again'. He is 50 years and is the President of the Congress party and projected as the PM candidate by the Congress. He has stooped low to demean the constitutional chief executive head of this country-namely the Prime Minister by using the highest constitutional institution of Justice to authenticate his abuse and his falsehood-saying gleefully that the SC has accepted Modi Chowkidar chor hai.

Rahul Gandhi  in his reply to the Supreme Court, says "he regretted that he gave the statement"

How can he get away from this by just offering ‘regret’ and apology and saying that he will not do it again? He has already damaged the fabric of democracy because he uttered this falsehood to thousands of citizens and justified it by dragging in the Supreme Court. He has no right to put words into the mouth of the SC.

No, RG must be taken to task and needs to be punished. Then everyone can take shelter behind the ‘heat of the campaign’ as RG has tried to explain off his falsehood, and goes scot free. Then why the bans on some people. Then how can the EC ask Sadhvi Pragya to explain her Babri Masjid and Karkare remarks. After all Sadhvi was tortured physically and mentally and hence humanly speaking not accept Karkare her torturer as a martyr –that is her perception and her pain. She is not the BJP spokesperson. She has her azadi to give vent to her pain as she is only one voice, a woman expressing her anguish.

I think Justice needs to be balanced and fair and impartial. Be it the EC and /or the SC. I hope and request the SC to punish Rahul Gandhi for his contempt of the Supreme Court. Let us see and feel that the SC is fair and impartial

In his reply to SC, Rahul Gandhi said that he "gave the statements in the heat of the political campaigning"
