2.2 Kg of Smuggled gold caught from one ‘Rasheed’ in Kerala’s Calicut Airport

In yet another incident of gold smuggling, which was caught red-handed, one Malappuram native Rasheed was caught by the air intelligence unit for smuggling 2.2 kg of gold. He brought the gold from Bahrain and was found attacked to his legs in liquid form. The Air Intelligence Unit has started an investigation into the matter.

 

Calicut international airport had been a hotbed for smuggling activities and there is a widespread accusation that only a few are getting caught. The smuggled gold is believed to aid the growing Islamic fundamentalist network in Kerala.

A vehicle accident in Calicut has opened a Pandora’s Box when it comes to Kerala’s dubious history of gold smuggling. Now, reports suggest that the five SDPI-PFI workers who are dead in the accident were part of gold-smuggling and black-money rackets. Among the dead, Tahir Shah, Ussainar and Nassar criminal cases against them.

 

Some of the people living in nearby areas have told the police that they heard fire-shots from the venue of the accident.

 

In yet another incident, gold worth Rs 1.11 crore was found from a passenger named Mohammad Shafique in Calicut airport. The reports suggest that that the dead 5 were accompanying Goonda leader Faisal to steal gold from those people who would come to purchase the smuggled gold.
