Legal Rights Observatory (LRO) has exposed the conversion activities and financial frauds committed by Boro Baptist Church Association over a series of tweets. LRO tweeted, “ #FCRAViolation Boro Baptist Church Association, #Bodoland #Assam got Rs 3.15 Cr from radical evangelist from Australia n @compassion, converted 17,000 Bodos with 199 Churches, GenSecy Rev Arjun Basumatary used money for political clout. Wrote @HMOIndia for action @HagramaOnline.” On another tweet, LRO alleged of duping Rs 35 lakh from foreign donors. LRO tweeted, “Boro Baptist Church Association got Rs 35 lakhs from foreign donors to celebrate India’s Independence Day n Republic Days, but no traces of celebrations found anywhere!”
The Boro Baptist Church Association (BBCA) was established in 1927 by the American Baptist Missionaries and later nurtured by Australian Baptist Missionary Society ABMS (now Global Interaction). It consists of 198 churches. The BBCA has its headquarters in the Tukrajhar Baptist Mission compound in Chirang district of Bodoland, Assam. BBCA is working in partnership with Baptist World Alliance, Global Interaction (Australia), Asian Pacific Baptist Federation, Seva Bharat, Missionaries Upholders Trust, Inspire India (Children Festival) and Tura Baptist Church.
LRO in their earlier tweets had exposed various evangelical organisations in the North-Eastern India, where conversion activities are rampant. Massive FCRA violations are observed in almost all the cases. With the demography changing due to rice-bag conversions, India’s culture in near future could be under threat from these evangelical forces.
