Former CM’s of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah have been put under preventive custody in Srinagar. The move comes in the wake of Rajya Sabha passing the Jammu & Kashmir Reorganization bill which bifurcated the state into two union territories.
The custody was effected on the orders of the Executive Magistrate of Srinagar. Omar Abdullah was detained at his house at Gupakar Road while Mehbooba has been sent to Hari Niwas Guest House which will serve as her detention centre until further notice.
Earlier on Sunday night, Mehbooba Mufti was detained at her residence. But Mehbooba had been making inflammatory statements through Twitter continuously since Sunday morning and was trying to incite the people of Jammu and Kashmir against India. After this, the local administration issued orders for the custody of Mehbooba in order to maintain law and order in the state. Soon afterwards, Omar Abdullah was also detained at his residence.
Meanwhile, no untoward incidents have been reported from anywhere in Jammu and Kashmir. Peace has been maintained throughout the state.
