Congress and CPM have been maintaining unholy nexus with all sorts of communal and fundamentalist forces since long. Workers of RSS and Jan Sangh, and later BJP, have been pointing this out since for last several decades. The recent meeting between the leaders of Congress’ ally Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and the leaders of Popular Front of India (PFI) and its political arm Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) vindicates this allegation. The CCTV visuals of the leaders of all three parties moving in the hotel have been telecast by Janam TV channel. IUML’s sitting MPs P.K. Kunjalikutty and E.T Mohammed Basheer represented their party whereas the other side was represented by SDPI president Abdul Majeed Faisi and PFI president Nasirudheen Ilamaram.
Reports suggest, the discussion was on the vote sharing in Ponnani Lok Sabha constituency where Basheer dreams a hat-trick win. SDPI bagged 26,000 votes there in 2014 elections. And, Mohammed Basheer’s tally had come down. Therefore, the meeting is the application of the “Early bird” theory. They do not want to take a chance; they bag the luck before LDF attempts to. They can not forget CPM embracing Abdul Nasser Madani in 2009 parliament elections.
There are reports that Congress leader and UDF convener Benny Behanan met the PFI and SDPI leaders the same day. Again, “Early Bird”. Congress does not want to miss a chance of losing the minority vote bank throughout the state, in all twenty constituencies.
