Noted international scholar of Indian culture and philosophy, Michel Danino was honoured with the prestigious Dr Vakankar national award at a function held in New Delhi on September 3. The award, which consists of a draft of Rs 25,000 and a citation, was given by the Baba Saheb Apte Smarak Samiti.

Recalling the contribution of Shri Michel Danino in Indian history and culture, noted historian Dr Swarajya Prakash Gupta said it was due to the contribution of scholars like Shri Michel Danino, a number of misconceptions established by Leftist historians had been demolished. "Aryan invasion is one of the few misconceptions which have been demolished by Shri Michel Danino," he said.

Michel Danino was honoured with the eighth Dr Vakankar award

Speaking on the occasion Shri Michel Danino said children in France are taught about their great people and history right from the primary stage so that they are aware of their ancient legacy. "But it is nothing but a tragedy that in India the country's legacy and values of life have been removed from the education," he said. He said the whole world needed the Indian values of life. "It was with a view to justify their invasion of India, the British floated the theory of Aryan invasion, proved that the Saraswati river did not exist and also ridiculed Indian knowledge. But today the whole world has understood the truth," he said. He asked the Leftist historians how a country which was uneducated and backward in ancient times, suddenly became the most civilized country of the world within a few centuries. He called upon every Indian to recognise their ancient legacy and work for preserving it.

Dr Bajranglal Gupta, Kshetra Sanghachalak of RSS, presented the award to Shri Danino. The citation was read by Shri Kulbhushan Gupta, Delhi Pradesh Vice-President of Itihas Sankalan Yojana. Earlier, Dr Rajendra Singh Kushwah spoke about Baba Saheb Apte and the late Dr Vakankar. Presiding over the function Shri Dinanath Batra, convenor of Shiksha Bachao Andolan Samiti, alleged that the Leftists were removing the new generation of the country from their roots.
