Dr Hedgewar circle in Mysore
With a unanimous resolution, the Mysore Municipal Corporation, named a prominent circle in Kuvempunagar area of the city after RSS founder Dr Keshav Baliram Hedgewar. For this purpose a public function was held on August 7 in the presence of Mayor Smt Bharati, Commissioner Shri Ibrahim and MP Shri Vijayasankeshwar. But a few Harijan youth, instigated by a self-styled intellectual staged a demonstration demanding that the circle be named after Dr B.R. Ambedkar. The youth indulged in vandalism and broke the granite commemorative inscription bearing the name of Dr Hedgewar. The police promptly rounded them up. A youth leader, Purushottam, persuaded the police to let the youth out on bail. After that he sat with them and talked to them. He explained to them who Dr Hedgewar was. When they learnt that Dr Hedgewar was in reality a freedom fighter and a patriot of the highest order, the Harijan youth regreted their actions and decided to "atone for their sin." They managed to put together sufficient money from their own pockets and installed a new granite tablet bearing Dr Hedgewar's name, identical to the one they had damaged.
