Mass upnayanam in Kochi
ALL Kerala Purohit Parishad conducted a mass upanayanam and Purohit Sangamam from August 8 to 10 at Pavakulam Mahadeva temple in Kochi. The function was enlightened by the main pujari of Pavakulam temple Brahma Shri Govindan Namboodiri on August 8. The inaugural speech was delivered by Shri Kummanam Rajashekharan who said that as per Hinduism a pujari (priest) should work and pray for the virtue of the society generously and not with an intention of selfish mind. He gave the example of Shri Narayan Guru and Swami Vivekananda who generously served the society. He stated that other countries had developed only because of their individual selfishness and personal benefits. The function was presided over by the vice president of All Kerala Purohit Parishad Shri M.P. Ramachandran. VHP state president Shri K.V. Madan, Karumathara Vijayam Thantri, Shri Girish and Shri P. Prakashan Master also attended the function. The welcome speech was delivered by Shri P.K. Santosh. The function concluded with vote of thanks by Shri K.V. Laxmanan. More than 100 pujaris attended the function.

Soft stand on terrorism is demoralising the society?Madandas
Shri Madandas, Sahsarkaryavah of RSS, said the soft stand of the government on terrorism is demoralising the society. He said a large number of terrorists trained in Pakistan and Bangladesh are entering into India and a section of local people is not only providing them shelter, but also extending all kinds of help. He was addressing a gathering of swayamsevaks at Nirala Nagar in Lucknow on August 20. He said only a united force of the society could fight against this menace. Stating that the RSS has been engaged to create such a force, he said the society today has faith in the Sangh and it regards it as an authentic and transparent organisation. He called upon the swayamsevaks to work with more vigour to unite the society. Shri Ashok Beri, Kshetra Prachrak of Poorvi Uttar Pradesh, Shri Kripashankar, Prant Pracharak of Avadh, Thakur Sankata Prasad, president of Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, Shri Kalyan Singh, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and Shri Jaikrishan Sinha, Vibhag Sanghachalak of Lucknow, were also present on the occasion.

Bhaiyaji Joshi visits flood-hit Surat
Sahsarkaryavah Shri Sureshrao Joshi, who is popularly known as Bhaiyaji Joshi, visited the flood-hit Surat city of Gujarat on August 14 to have first-hand information of the relief activities being carried out by the Sangh swayamsevaks. He said the swayamsevaks started relief activities on August 8 despite the fact that some of their houses had submerged in flood water. They provided shelter to 200 families at Dr Ambedkar Vanvasi Trust run by Dr Hedgewar Sewa Samiti. He said on August 9 they provided meals to the victims. He said the swayamsevaks were first among the government agencies and NGOs to reach the societies of Dandi Road in Rander region and distributed relief material with the help of a tractor. He said over 3000 activists from Navasari, Valsad, Olapad, Bharuch, Ankaleshwar, etc. also started cleanliness drive on August 11 so that water-born diseases could not strike the affected areas. A team of doctors also started working on August 11. By setting-up of medical camps at 22 places they treated over 4000 flood victims. Bhaiyaji visited Varacha, Amaroli, Wed Road, Katar village, Bhagan Chowk, Adajan, etc. After August 15, at least 500 swayamsevaks from different parts of Gujarat have been reaching Surat with insecticides and pesticides. Sewa Bharati, Gujarat, also distributed family kits to the flood victims.

Grand Hindu sammelan to pay tribute to Shri Guruji
Vishwa Hindu Parishad has decided to organise a grand Hindu sammelan in Prayag from February 11 to 13 to celebrate the birth centenary of Shri Guruji. People from one lakh villages of the country and representatives from 100 countries of the world will pay tribute to Shri Guruji at the sammelan. According to Shri Mahavirji, Kshetriya organising secretary of VHP, the convention would be unique to a great extent. He said the preparations of the convention have begun on a large scale and there would be special meetings at the vibhag level in which VHP general secretary Dr Pravin Togadia will participate and thousands of workers will be engaged in the preparations. He pointed out that at least 300 full-time workers would come out from each vibhag to help in the smooth organisation of the convention. Since Shri Guruji had played a key role in bringing all saints at a single platform, this convention is an effort to pay him tribute in that manner.

ABVP to oppose those insulting national heroes
Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has decided to oppose all those forces and people who are insulting the national heroes. Speaking at a meeting of the Parishad held in Agra from August 19 to 20, Dr Kailash Sharma, national president of ABVP said commercialisation of education, degradation in evaluation system, minoritysim of education and insult of national heroes would not be tolerated at all and the ABVP would launch an extensive campaign against all such organisations, ideologies, publishers and people. Speaking at the concluding session of the meeting Shri K. Raghunandan said the UPA government is trying to impose the leftist ideology on the country. The meeting also expressed concern over the negligence of evaluation of answer-sheets in Meerut University.

9,000 pilgrims participate in Budha Amarnath yatra
Despite terrorist threat and various hurdles created by the local administration, 9,000 pilgrims from across the country participated in the Budha Amarnach yatra, which concluded on August 7. According to Shri Prakash Sharma, convernor of Bajrang Dal, which conducted the yatra, about 400 to 500 people participated in the yatra every day. The yatra had begun on July 27. He said more than 2000 local people also participated in the yatra. Earlier the local people used to abstain from it due to threat from terrorists and non-cooperation of the local administration. The initiative taken by the Bajrang Dal to re-start the yatra has encouraged them in this regard. Though the administration had made arrangement to accommodate 500 people per day, the number of pilgrims reached to over 1500 on the last day and the administration had to allow the pilgrims to stay in those places, which it was not allowing earlier. According to Shri Sharma, the pilgrims were extended warm welcome in Sunderbani, Rajauri and Poonch by local people, BSF jawans and the army.
