Karmayogi, Nitish Bhardwaj's film on Shri Guruji Released
By Pramod Kumar

Sarsanghachalak, Leader of Opposition grace the occasion.

Karmayogi, a documentary film produced on the dedicated life of Shri Guruji, the second Sarsanghachalak of RSS, was released in New Delhi on August 15 by Sarsanghachalak Shri K.S. Sudarshan. ?Since the film is based on documentary evidences and at several places the help of drama has been taken to film the events of those days, it is a docu-drama,? said Dr Bajranglal Gupta, Kshetra Sanghachalak and all India secretary of Shri Guruji Birth Centenary Celebration Committee. The film has been produced by Shri Guruji Birth Centenary Celebration Committee. The 100-minutes film will be available in market in the form of a DVD at the cost of Rs 100 in first week of September.

Noted TV personality Shri Nitish Bhardwaj, popularly known as Shri Krishna of Mahabharat serial, has directed the film. Shri Arvind Bilgaiyan, a theatre personality of Bhopal, has performed as Shri Guruji in the film. He received applause from the audience at the packed FICCI auditorium.

Dr Balram Mishra has done the research work for the film.

Shri Advani honoured Shri Nitish Bhardwaj, Shri Arvind Bilgaiyan and Dr Balram Mishra with a shawl and coconut for their outstanding contribution in the film.

The film successfully dismisses the charges that the RSS did not participate in the freedom movement. From beginning to the end (death of Shri Guruji on June 5, 1973) the film is based on documentary evidences. The film also quotes Shri K.S. Sudarshan, Shri Mohan Bhagwat, Shri L.K. Advani and experts like Shri Brahm Chelani on various topics. The formation of Bharatiya Jana Sangh and Vishwa Hindu Parishad, and the role of swayamsevaks during the freedom struggle are highlighted. During the Quit India Movement of 1942 a meeting of Zila Sanghachalaks was held in Pune where a Sanghachalak suggested that the Sangh should support the armed struggle of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose because the Quit India Movement had become directionless. At that meeting Shri Guruji had said that he is a sannyasi and cannot say anything about that. ?But the swayamsevaks are free to do any work. If it succeeds it will be good for the country and if it fails it will remain in the history as one more effort to liberate the country.?

The film shows the incident of Chimur (Maharashtra) where a group of swayamsevaks in 1942 came out in streets with tricolour and hoisted the flag for continuously 24 hours. Later, the British army attacked the group and killed swayamsevaks in an indiscriminate firing. A witness of that agitation is still alive and lives in Nagpur. Similar revolt was reported in Ashti (Vidarbha) where the swayamsevaks sacrificed their lives while participating in the freedom movement.

The film also shows how the popularity of Shri Guruji was growing after 1940 when he toured the whole country and the Congress leaders sought shelter in the houses of Sangh leaders. Nana Patil took shelter in the house of Pt. Satvalekar who was then Sanghachalak of Aundh (Pune). Similarly Shri Kishan Vir, a close associate of Nana Patil took shelter at the residence of Sanghachalak?s house in Vayee (Maharashtra). The Socialist leader Shri Achyut Patwardhan also stayed at the house of a Sanghachalak. The Gandhian leader Sane Guruji used to stay in the house of Pune Sanghachalak.

The film also throws light on the role of swayamsevaks during the attacks by Pakistan in 1965 and 1971, attack by China in 1962 and after Partition of the country when swayamsevaks rescued about five lakh Hindus from Pakistan. Shri Guruji had then directed the swayamsevaks not to leave the place till every single Hindu is rescued from that place. The film shows swayamsevaks rescuing people from the clutches of Muslim goons. Highlighting various important events of the life of Shri Guruji and also the events of at that time, the film successfully exposes the anti-India role of communists during that period. The film concludes with homage by eminent personalities of the country including the then President V.V. Giri, Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi, Acharya Vinoba Bhave, Jain saint Acharya Tulsi, Jai Prakash Narayan, and the then Lok Sabha Speaker Gurudayal Dhillon.
