An Ayyappa devotee who was brutally attacked by CPM goons succumbed to injuries last night. Chandran Unnithan (55) was severely injured in stone pelting by CPM goons at Pandalam in Pathanamthitta district yesterday. He died in Believer’s Church Medical College hospital at Thiruvalla on Wednesday evening.
Chandran Unnithan was injured when CPM goons pelted stones on a peaceful protest march from their party office in Pandalam. He was participating in the Namajapa, Ayyappa Mantra chanting, organised by the Sabarimala Karma Samithi, in protest against the violation of tradition happened in Sabarimala after the police smuggled Maoist women into the Sabarimala temple. The police have arrested two CPM workers in connection with the murder. The condition of three other devotees continues to be critical.
The CPM with the connivance of the state police force has unleashed violence in many parts of the state. The police have arrested hundreds of devotees, including women, who had taken part in peaceful protests in Kochi. Today’s dawn-to-dusk hartal called for by the Sabarimala Karma Samiti in protest against the violation of tradition in Sabarimala is progressing amid the threats of a massive crackdown on the BJP-RSS workers.
