Villupuram: Forum for Awareness of National Security (FANS) organised a marathon at Police Parade Grounds involving about 7500 young boys and girls on December 30 to celebrate the Independence of Bharat declared by Netaji. It is to be noted that On December 30, 1943, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose had hoisted the tricolour in the Andamans.

FANS celebrates this historic event every year in Port Blair. Youngsters (above 12 to 15 years and 16 to 19 years) ran 12 kms. Children, less than 12 years of age, ran 5 kms. Administrator of Lakshadweep Shri Sardar Farookh Khan hoisted the national flag. Swami Yatindrananda Giri of Juna Akhara of Haridwar and other dignitaries released pigeons to mark the freedom of Bharat declared by Netaji. Then the marathon was flagged off by Swami Yatindranand and Shri Sardar Farookh Khan. The winners were felicitated with cash prizes.
