Vision
unfolds
Jung na hone denge thundered the poet Atal Behari Vajpayee. But when
the snow-capped mountain tops at Kargil were perfidiously occupied
by Pakistani forces, the Prime Minister of India was quick enough
to counter the treacherous stab-in-the-back. The Kargil war was won.
The Prime Minister personally went over to the battlefront to pat
every fighting soldier whom the whole nation paid tributes. Vajpayee
the visionary did not let his vision be blurred by the stark realities
of a given situation. Half a century ago we won our freedom after
a long and strenuous struggle against colonial rule. The nation began
its march towards the rebuilding of a new India accomplishing one
goal after another.
“However, we
still have many dreams that are yet unrealised”, reminded the PM in
one of his messages last year and added, “we must rededicate ourselves
to the task of building a strong, prosperous and egalitarian India,
an India that is free of every trace of underdevelopment, a caring
and compassionate India, and an India that regains her rightful role
in shaping the destiny of the world in the new millennium”. With great
hopes and optimism the nation has set out on a cooperative and conciliatory
course towards its cherished goal. However, it is unfortunate that
a part of the political spectrum, including the Leftists, fails to
appreciate the value of conciliation. Maybe, because they subscribe
to the creed of confrontation. Battling for survival, the Congress
Party has walked into the Leftist trap and stupidly allowed them to
hold up Parliamentary proceedings.
After ten days
of doing nothing and about fifty crores going down the drain, the
nation saw its Prime Minister standing true to his name—as firm as
ever to his commitments and convictions. In an era of coalition politics,
every partner has to abide by the coalition dharma and adjust itself
to the dynamics of internal and external pressure. The new millennium
poses new challenges but then it also offers new opportunities. United
in the service of the nation we have to prepare ourselves to grapple
with any eventuality, grab the opportunities and grow with confidence
and commitment to the cause under the able and sagacious leadership
of the sterling statesman Jananayak Atal Behari Vajpayee.
