| Congress
resorting to political negativism -L.K.
Advani THE last twenty years have
indeed been a very happy journey. The turning point in this journey was 1996. The BJP in
1996 displaced the Congress as the principal party in India. We occupied the centre stage
and the Congress was pushed to political negativism. Support to Shri H.D. Deve Gowda, Shri
I.K. Gujral and now even to RJD in Bihar is a result of this negativism, the only object
of which is to keep the BJP out. Even during the Pokaran tests and the Kargil conflict,
issues which related to National Security, the Congress adopted this approach. Even in
relation to strengthening the Constitution through a review process, the Congress has
adopted a politically negative attitude. The Congress President's shrill noises on
Constitutional review are devoid of substance. It is an empty slogan. "Did the
Congress party show disrespect to Dr Ambedkar by amending the Constitution over seventy
times?"
In this twenty years journey, we have been guided by
our ideology. We have aligned with many parties on the strength of our idealism. All the
NDA partners subscribe to the ideals of good governance. Each one of us has kept aside
some of our specific issues to subscribe to the common ideals of good governance.
We have reached this milestone on the strength of our
ideals, ideology and commitment of our cadres. We have been fortunate to have had the
leadership of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee and Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya when we were
young. As we have grown, we have in Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee, a leader with a vision who
has the widest national acceptability, who is going to lead India into one of the most
powerful and developed nations of the world. |
