He was speaking as chief guest at the Dr Hedgewar Pragya Samman ceremony organised by Shree Burrabazar Kumarasabha Pustakalya at the University Institute Hall, Calcutta. Eminent writer and thinker Dr Narendra Kohli had received the Samman for the year 2000. The award carried a citation, shawl, shreephal and Rs 51,000 cash.

The irony today is that we are accepting social ills as our culture. I am proud that I am a conventionalist. Dr Narendra Kohli said after receiving the award.
