Jagaran Abhiyan
A successful campaign in Delhi Prant
From Our Correspondent
The last phase of the Rahstra Jagaran Abhiyan of Delhi
Prant is coming to a close. The efforts of the swayamsevaks to contact
different sections of the society have been quite successful. The
literature aimed at creating awareness about the RSS activities has
also been welcomed by all. Various sections of society affirmed their
trust in the RSS and had their misgivings removed after hearing from
the swayamsevaks that the RSS believes in the concept of Hindutva
as defined by the Supreme Court. “When RSS talks about Hinduism, it
does not use the word in a narrow sense meaning community. The RSS
has always stated that Hinduism is a way of life committed to building
the national character and prosperity of the nation.
People following
about 200 modes of worship call themselves Hindus. All citizens living
between the Himalaya and the Indian Ocean are only members of a large
family of Bharat that is Hindusthan. We all have got to be vigilant
to safeguard the honour and interest of Bharat Mata and ensure that
our country reaches the pinnacle of glory and grandeur, said Shri
Satyanarain Bansal, Prant Sanghchalak, Delhi while talking to mediapersons.
Recalling what he experienced during the Abhiyan, Shri Bansal said:
A citizen of rural Delhi, well known for his study of the Holy Quran
and the Islamic doctrines, was so well impressed by the RSS campaign
that he joined the campaigning swayamsevaks and started pursuading
other sections of society to understand and appreciate the holistic
approach of the RSS. Prominent leaders who were contacted during the
campaign were Deputy Chairperson of Rajya Sabha, Dr. Najma Heptullah
and Lok Sabha speaker, GMC Balyogi. Both the leaders endorsed the
role of RSS swayamsevaks during natural calamities. When swayamsevaks
contacted Congres leader and former Finance Minister Dr. Manmohan
Singh, he posed a question: Why do the Sangh swayamsevaks join only
the BJP and not the Congress? He was reminded of the fact that it
is the Congress that had banned the entry of the swayamsevaks to the
party through a resolustion passed in early fifties.
Suggestions from
all corners were also received during the Abhiyan. Janata Dal leader
and Minister for Civil Aviation, Sharad Yadav suggested that swayamsevaks
eradicate casteism from our society. Akali Dal leader Sukhdev Singh
Dhindsa the Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers appreciated the
RSS role in terrorism-affected Punjab. Trinamool Congress leader and
Minister of State for External Affairs Ajit Panja urged the swayamsevaks
to renovate the thousands of temples that are in a dilapidated condition
in his constituency. Former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar said that
the RSS should put pressure on the Government to encourage swadeshi.
So far about fifteen lakh families have been contacted, 163 villages
and 1440 bustees have been covered during the Abhiyan. Swayamsevaks
also contacted, 16 ministers and a large number of leaders and MPs
of various political parties and more than 325 senior officers of
IAS and other services lecturers and professors, more than 30 principals
of schools. heads of departments and directors of 70 renowned hospitals/nursing
homes, advocates. More than 300 retired officers of the rank of Captain
and above of the Armed Forces have been contacted so far. The relevant
Sangh literature has been handed out to them. In order to accomplish
the target of contacting the remaining sections of society, the Abhiyan
has been extended up to December 24, 2000.
