Sonia Gandhi to the aid of lumpen Marxists of Bengal

Our Special Correspondent

EVER since the Left Front nominee Gurudas Dasgupta was defeated in the Lok sabha by-election from Pnaskura constituency in the Medinipur district of West Bengal at the hands of the Trinamool nominee Dr Bikram Sarkar six months ago, the CPI-M has launched a virtual extermination campaign in the district in order to 'cleanse" the district of all "non-believers" in Marxism. Daily killings, forcible eviction of men, women and children from villages if they show the slightest inclination towards the Trinamool Congress-BJP combine, forcible allegiance to the Red Flag of the Marxists, and making policemen act as their virtual apparitchiks, remind one of the Taliban of modern days and the Hitlerites of second world war vintage. "Either you owe allegiance to the Red Flag or you are out" seems to be the message being spread by the Marxists headed by a tinpot dictator called Sushanta Ghosh, a Minister of State, ably aided by the Superintendent of Police, Gaurab Dutta. Keshpur village in the district is a flash point since the Trinamool nominee in the Lok Sabha by-election had got a sensational lead over the Left Front nominee here.

So when Mamata Banerjee announced that she would hold yet another public meeting there on January 3, the CPI-M leadership vowed that "not a single human will attend that meeting", and launched the Hitlerite-cum-Talibanistic campaign to give effect to their vow. Yet, neither the CPI-M leadership in Kolkata nor their minions in the Medinipur district could present Mamata from holding a huge public meeting there where she gave a call to the people to make the Left Front vacate Writers' Building (the State Secretariat) in Calcutta within the next three months. Calling upon the huge gathering to put up with the Marxist violence for three more months, Mamata Banerjee promised them to hold a "victory rally" on this very ground three months later. (The State Assembly elections are due in April). The lumpen Marxists, obviously could not stand this humiliation at the hands of someone who used to be called "a chit of a girl" from the Kolkata slums, and showered bullets and bombs on the people returning from the meeting. The worst case of this Hitlerite extermination took place at the village called Chhoto Anguria or Hemnagar where, at is alleged, 11 to 18 people were shot down by the Marxists. It is true that not even a single body of these victims has been recovered yet. This is the excuse given by the Chief Minister ("now less arrogant than before" Buddhadev Bhattarcharya who dismissed reports of this incident of the figments of Mamata's imagination and declared haughtily (as before) that the police could not find any trace of such killings.

However, things became a little difficult for him when Mamata went back to the village, and recovered remains of some people, and later the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Parliamentary team led by the BJP Member of Lok Sabha Vijay Goel unearthed a huge number of empty cartridges, more remains of alleged victims, and numerous bullet marks on the walls of the houses, particularly the house belonging to Abdul Rahman where the carnage is said to have taken place. Bhattacharya reversed his earlier stand and sent a police team alongwith a sniffer dog to trace probably the remains of bodies. He also encountered trouble from unexpected quarters. The Superintendent of Police Gaurav Dutta has confessed that an event did take place in the village. During a recent visit, a section of media found only one woman, Anwar Begum, residing in the village with her four-day infant. Perhaps she could not have fled with her newborn child like other villagers did. Buddhadev Bhattacharya deigned to institute an inquiry into the incident by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the State Police. The "stodgy" Marxist, who is not known to possess such un-Marxist behaviour as cutting jokes, made the entire people of West Bengal and the rest of the country launch at this decision. The Police in West Bengal now behaves more or less as a wing of the CPI-M and most officers are said to be of the type of Tushar Talukdar, the Calcutta Police Chief till a few years ago, who was better known as "Lenin Talukdar". What the Centre and the political parties want is that the CBI should be entrusted with the inquiry and in his "advisory" to the West Bengal Government, Home Minister L.K. Advani has asked them to hold this inquiry by an independent body. CBI is the obvious such agency.

West Bengal can certainly be put under President's Rule if only the lady of 10 Janpath gives an undertaking that the Congress party would support the motion for ratification of President's Rule when it comes before the Rajya Sabha. (According to clause 3 of Article 356 of the Constitution, any proclamation under this article imposing President's rule in a State has to be ratified by resolutions adopted by both House of Parliament). Sonia Gandhi's spokeperson has rejected the demand for imposing President's Rule in West Bengal, revealing the "hidden hand" behind the Marxist massacre. If Sonia Gandhi wishes and makes a public declaration that her party would vote for the resolution in the Rajya Sabha where the NDA is in a minority, Central Rule can be imposed in West Bengal any day and the people for the unfortunate State can them enjoy freedom from oppression, daily dacoities in various parts of the State and above all, "scientific rigging" during the elections. But Sonia Gandhi, who still dreams about becoming the Prime Minister one day and is certain to obtain support from the CPI-M in her venture, will not give such an undertaking.

While accusing the Marxists of committing murder and mayhem in West Bengal, one must not forget that Sonia's hands too are smeared with the blood of the Bengali victims most of whom in this particular case are Muslims, dalits and tribals. So even though A.B.A. Gandhi Khan Chowdhury, the former Pradesh Congress chief wants to join a Mamata Banerjee-led "Mahajot" (the grand alliance) against the Marxists, Priya Ranjan Das Munshi, the Chief whip of the Congress Party in the Lok Sabha would not approve of it since the Trinamool Congress is aligned with the BJP. Even though Ghani Khan Chowdhury has no objection to this alliance, the "secular" Das Munshi would not like to join the "Mahajot" and so would his boss, the Lady of 10 Janpath, would people of West Bengal pardon the "hand", smeared with the blood of Muslim, dalit and tribal victims of Marxist-Fascists in the coming elections? (There is no contradiction in the term Marxist-Fascists. Only five days before Hitler launched his attack on Poland on September 1, 1939, Soviet Foreign Minister Molotov had flown to Berlin to sign a non-aggression pact with Hitler's foreign minister Ribbentrop, thus cementing friendship between Marxists and Fascists).

So, while the Communists of West Bengal have to be condemned and deposed for their bloody drive to extreminate their opponents-Hitler and Stalin type-Sonia Gandhi too cannot be pardoned for the sins being committed against the Bengalis. After all, she comes from the land of the Fascists which was a close ally of Hitler under the leadership of Mussolini.
