Himachal to involve private sector in setting up educational institutions

Prem Kumar DhumalHimachal Pradesh Government would involve private sector in setting up elemenatary and higher levels of basic as well as professional education in areas like information technology, medicine, engineering and other fields to attract children from all over India and abroad to attend boarding schools, announced State Chief Minister Prof Prem Kumar Dhumal. He said this while addressing the 26th annual session and conference organised by the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) in New Delhi.

Prof Dhumal said that State government would invite established tea companies to set up tea gardens to promote tea cultivation in the State.

The Chief Minister disclosed that the Government has decided to invite proposals for contract farming in the areas of agriculture, horticulture and herb cultivation by handing them over to seed companies. The Government, he said has formulated a draft policy on township development for private sector investment and undertake disinvestment of tourism sector properties.

The State Government would hold a series of workshops and meets during the months May and June on power and tourism sector to attract potential investors on the basis of natural or competitive advantages.

Prof Dhumal said that the State government would review and amend all laws and administrative instruction to simplify procedure in government offices. He added that the Government intends on phased reduction of untargeted subsidies and targeting of subsidies to ensure benifits reach to the poor.
