Assam State BMS demands immediate wage settlement in PSUs

Shri Hashubhai Dave addressing the conferenceTHE 10th Assam State Conference of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) was held at Silchar on 5th and 6th March 2000. More than 300 delegates from different parts of Assam participated in the Conference which was inaugurated on March 5, by Shri Hashubhai Dave, All India General Secretary of BMS. Shri R.P. Misra, Organising Secretary, Dr S. Kulkarni, Organising Secretary, N.E. Region also graced the occasion.

While inaugurating the conference, Shri Dave explained at length the economic scenario of the country and the role of BMS to tackle the situation. He also appealed to all delegates to devote more time to the cause of the organisation.

During the Business session on the same day, Shri Somesh Biswas, General Secretary, BMS, Assam State placed the report for the past three years which after a lively discussion was unanimously accepted.

Shri Hashubhai Dave addressing the conferenceThe Conference adopted resolutions opposing economic reforms as launched by the successive Governments including the present one. The Conference also adopted resolution in support of the 10-points demand of Tea-Garden workers, ASTC employees' problems, Anganwadi workers' problems and a resolution demanding immediate wage settlement of public sector undertakings including financial sectors.

On the second day a huge rally was organised showing the strength of BMS. Later, the rally turned into an open session. Open session was addressed by S/Shri Sabyasachi Bhattacharjee, General Secretary, BMS, Cachar, Dr Sudhakar Kulkarni, R.P. Misra and Hashubhai Dave. The open session was presided over by Shri Pradip Kumar Misra. Shri Rajendra Dwibedi, Secretary, BMS, Cachar, proposed a vote of thanks.

A view of the rallyThe Conference elected a 26 member Working Committee of BMS, Assam Pradesh for the next 3 years with Shri Animesh Kanti Das as the President, Shri Somesh Biswas as the General Secretary and Shri Nirmal Kanti Das as Treasurer.
